Family Office Services
For individuals and families with more complex financial lives, SkyOak Capital provides family office services designed to bring investments, financial planning, estate and legacy strategies, insurance, charitable planning and other financial matters together in one coordinated relationship.
Rather than replacing a family’s attorney, CPA or other professionals, we help coordinate the financial pieces and work with the client’s existing advisors so that important decisions are considered as part of the broader wealth plan.
Family office services are led by Jennifer Davis, CFP®, who has more than 35 years of wealth management experience, including eight years with the Smith Barney/Citigroup Family Office group before founding SkyOak Capital.
What a Family Office Engagement Covers
The scope is established in writing at the beginning of the engagement and may include any combination of the following:
- Wealth Coordination — Serving as a central point of coordination for the family’s financial affairs, bringing together investments, planning, entities and professional advisors.
- Estate & Wealth Transfer — Working with the family’s estate attorney on trusts, gifting, generation-skipping strategies and other approaches to transferring wealth across generations.
- Philanthropic Management — Coordinating donor-advised funds, private foundations, direct giving and other charitable strategies with the family’s tax, estate and legacy goals.
- Life Management & Budgeting — Managing and planning for cash flow across the family, including household spending, education funding and other significant financial commitments.
- Specialized Reporting — Providing a more consolidated view of the family’s financial position across custodians, entities, real estate and private investments, based on the scope of the engagement.
- Risk Management, Asset Protection & Insurance — Evaluating financial risks related to liability, death, long-term care and other events, and identifying insurance or other strategies that may help address those risks.
- Advisor Coordination — Working with the family’s CPA, estate attorney and other professional advisors so that investment, tax, estate and other financial decisions are considered together.
Discretionary investment management, when SkyOak Capital manages the portfolios directly, is provided under a separate agreement and fee in addition to the family office engagement. Some families use both services, while others engage SkyOak for family office coordination while maintaining existing investment managers.
Who This Is For
Family office services are generally designed for individuals and families with $5 million or more in investable assets or net worth whose financial affairs require a higher level of coordination.
This may include families with multiple trusts or entities, significant business or real estate interests, multiple generations, charitable or philanthropic goals, or a major liquidity or wealth transition.
Fees
Family Office Services are customized based on the scope and complexity of each client’s needs. Fees may be structured as a percentage of net worth, generally ranging from 0.25% to 0.55% annually, or as a fixed annual or hourly fee. Investment management, when provided, is under a separate agreement and fee.
Complete fee information is available on our Fees page and in SkyOak Capital’s Form ADV.

FAQs
Questions About Family Office Services
What is the difference between family office services and investment
management?
Investment management focuses on managing the investment portfolio. Family office services provide broader wealth coordination across investments, financial planning, estate and legacy planning, philanthropy, insurance and the family’s other professional advisors. Families may engage SkyOak for either or both services.
Do I need to move my investments to SkyOak Capital?
Not necessarily. Family office services may include coordinating investments held with other custodians or investment managers. Families who want SkyOak Capital to manage their portfolios directly enter into a separate investment management agreement.
Does SkyOak Capital replace my attorney or CPA?
No. We coordinate with the family’s attorneys, CPAs and other professional advisors. SkyOak Capital does not practice law, draft legal documents or prepare tax returns.
Can SkyOak help with charitable and philanthropic planning?
Yes. Family office planning may include donor-advised funds, private foundations, charitable giving and other philanthropic strategies, coordinated with the family’s tax, estate and legacy planning.
Is there a minimum for Family Office Services?
Family Office Services are generally designed for individuals and families with approximately $5 million or more in investable assets or net worth, although the scope and complexity of a client’s financial needs are also considered. Fees vary based on the services provided and the structure of the engagement.
